Here’s a neat airless tire made from recycled plastics by Bridgestone. The advantage of course is that you won’t get stuck on the side of the road due to a flat. For this reason the military is a big consumer of airless tires, but the drawback is that the cars using them suffer from vibration problems especially at high speeds – the air, just like in the famous Nike shoes, softens the ride. It could be that Bridgestone has solved these problems with this new design. For more airless tires check out the Ron Arad bike with steel wheels.
