The singing cloud by Artist Shilpa Gupta from Mumbai, India is made of up 4,000 reverse wired black microphones hanging in a cloud shaped sculpture. Microphones and small audio speakers are very similar in construction and in this case she uses the microphones as little speakers. Each microphone in the cloud produces sound, spoken words about clouds, flying, modern culture, with the sound flutters from one end of the cloud to the other in a rhythmic surreal fashion. The cloud and the sound patterns are supposed to represent the pressures of modern society.
